Fish Skin Tanning Workshop

Participants must commit to attending all three workshop days.
Maximum of 15 participants.
Lunch will be provided.

Cheyanne Pitawanakwat is a proud member of Whitefish River First Nation. For the past five years, she has been learning the art of Fish Skin Tanning, which transforms raw fish skin into durable leather using traditional techniques. During this workshop, she will be teaching the Tea Tanning Method.

Workshop Schedule:
Day 1: Cheyanne will share her experience and discuss what inspired her journey into Fish Skin Tanning. Participants will begin scraping and preparing fish skins for the Tea Tanning Method.
Day 2: Participants will finish scraping any remaining skins and receive written instructions to take home to care for their skins until the final session.
Day 3: Participants will complete their fish leather to keep or use in creating a small craft. A small celebration will be held to recognize the completion of their leather.
