Anya Wright of Empower Martial Arts and Self Defense will join us in a series of 4 separate workshop opportunities. Anya Wright has been studying martial arts for 15+ years and is trained in Judo, Jiu-jitsu, and has their second-degree black belt in Karate through the Manitoulin School of Martial Arts. These workshops will allow participants to build confidence, awareness, and practical skills in a supportive space, designed to help women feel safe. Each workshop is a standalone session - please choose the one that works best for you. Registration is not required. Group 1: 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM Group 2: 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM Dan Garcia, also known as Ozowmukwanidoo which translates to Yellow Spirit Bear. Dan is Turtle Clan and is originally from Walpole Island First Nation, Bkejwanong. Dan currently resides in Whitefish River First Nation with his family. He is the proud father of five beautiful children and grandfather to three grandchildren.He has been attaining cultural knowledge for over 23 years by participating in singing with big drum, hand drumming, various teachings, fasting, helping with and conducting various ceremonies. Dan has reclaimed and utilized cultural teachings to overcome issues such as childhood trauma, violence, and addictions issues. His approach to living a healthy lifestyle is based on cultural teachings and principles from the Anishinabek Nation. Registration required. Limited to 5 Participants per session. All are welcome Facilitated by Henry Pitawanakwat Henry Pitawanakwat is with the Three Fires Confederacy from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, and is very fluent in all dialects, which also includes Chippewa and Algonquin. With over 40 years of research experience, Henry has worked as an Archaeologist, an internship at the Museum of Civilization and is a member of translators for the Translation Bureau Government of Canada. Henry enjoys working with language and providing knowledge within his community and offers traditional teachings and knowledge through listening, sharing and the importance of connecting to the land. Light snacks will be available for all participants prior to / following the Lunch and Learn session.
