Attendees are not required to attend all three workshops. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing, bring a water bottle, and your own yoga mat (if you prefer). Yoga mats will be provided for individuals who do not have one. Accessible parking will be available at the Park Centre. All other parking will be at the Museum and Boat Launch parking lot. Dan Garcia, also known as Ozowmukwanidoo which translates to Yellow Spirit Bear. Dan is Turtle Clan and is originally from Walpole Island First Nation, Bkejwanong. Dan currently resides in Whitefish River First Nation with his family. He is the proud father of five beautiful children and grandfather to three grandchildren. He has been attaining cultural knowledge for over 23 years by participating in singing with big drum, hand drumming, various teachings, fasting, helping with and conducting various ceremonies. Dan has reclaimed and utilized cultural teachings to overcome issues such as childhood trauma, violence, and addictions issues. His approach to living a healthy lifestyle is based on cultural teachings and principles from the Anishinabek Nation. Cheyanne Pitawanakwat is a proud member of Whitefish River First Nation. For the past five years, she has been learning the art of Fish Skin Tanning, which transforms raw fish skin into durable leather using traditional techniques. During this workshop, she will be teaching the Tea Tanning Method. Workshop Schedule: Day 1: Cheyanne will share her experience and discuss what inspired her journey into Fish Skin Tanning. Participants will begin scraping and preparing fish skins for the Tea Tanning Method. Day 2: Participants will finish scraping any remaining skins and receive written instructions to take home to care for their skins until the final session. Day 3: Participants will complete their fish leather to keep or use in creating a small craft. A small celebration will be held to recognize the completion of their leather.
